  • Do you remember where you were when you sold your first product?

The first retail store to carry our sleeping bags was located on Toorak Road, though it's no longer there. I walked in off the street and presented my samples to Franca, the owner. She believed in both me and the product, investing in everything I had to offer. I will always be grateful to her for the opportunity she provided.

  • What are some of your proudest moments?

I am so proud of the love we receive from millions of parents who trust us to keep their precious babies comfortable, warm, and safe in our pouches. Additionally, I take pride in having built an incredibly reliable and talented team that ensures everything runs smoothly and keeps our customers happy.

  • What is your favourite product?

Without a doubt, the Sheeting Sleeping Bag. The design of the OG product - the sheeting bag - has not changed since its first pattern. It's a superstar and I know many families agree.

  • What mistakes have you made, and what did you learn from them?

I wouldn't necessarily call them mistakes; I prefer to think of them as valuable lessons, and there have been plenty of those. Without taking risks, we can't grow. For instance, in the early days, a shipment of 6,000 bags arrived with the zippers not sewn on properly. I decided to send the entire shipment back and subsequently implemented quality control systems for future orders.

  • Who was/is your role model and/or leadership mentor?

I aspire to many entrepreneurs who innovate and push boundaries to create new and interesting concepts that improve people's lives.

I connect with several people who help me navigate tough decisions and explore new ventures. I also have many dear friends in the baby industry with whom I network and discuss various issues and concerns. Additionally, I read a lot of business books; they are very inspiring and provide me with great ideas.

  • Advice that you'd give yourself now?

If I could give myself advice now, I'd say to embrace uncertainty and trust the process. It's important to stay open to learning and adapting, as growth often comes from unexpected challenges. Also, prioritise self-care; taking time for yourself enhances your ability to support others, especially your kids. Finally, remember that progress is a journey, not a destination - enjoy the present moments.

  • What do you wish you knew 15 years ago?

Looking back, I wish I had been more proactive in protecting my ideas. It's a tough balance when you're working on a budget, as patents can be costly and need to be registered before the product is even launched in Australia. Some of my innovations have been replicated over the years, which I suppose is a compliment but still very frustrating. So, my advice to you is to be cautious and proactive in protecting your ideas from the start.

  • Advice for any mums out there wanting to start a business?

Don't give up your day job just yet. Pursue something you're truly passionate about - it's a risk worth taking! Starting small and working on the side allows you to explore without losing anything. Stay agile and be prepared to pivot if things don't go as planned. Always listen to your customers and strive to meet their needs.

Remember, there's nothing you can't learn. Maintaining a positive, can-do attitude is essential for success!

  • What's your favourite print of all time from ergoPouch?

Ah, there are so many that I love. But if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Daisies. It is such a gorgeous print for both genders.

  • The juggle of motherhood/working mum - advice for building a business and managing it all.

This is a significant question, and I get asked it frequently, as it's a common challenge for working mums. I always emphasise that every working mum needs support at home; it simply can't be done alone. Partners must step up and share responsibilities equally, and it can also be beneficial to seek additional help from nannies, cleaners, or grandparents. Delegating tasks is crucial for effectively managing both kids and a business.

  • What is your take on how the business has grown?

If you had asked me 15 years ago where I saw this business heading, I certainly wouldn't have predicted how far we've come. I'm truly amazed by our growth. I feel incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by such a talented team who share this journey with me and are just as passionate about babies as I am.

  • How did you persevere through the tough times?

It's essential to keep your focus on the bigger picture. If the challenges you face are within your control, there's nothing you can't resolve. Learning to let go of what's beyond your control is a valuable skill. Stay patient and maintain your focus on future growth - there's no going back!

  • What do you think helped you the most to make a career as a woman? What's the biggest factor that has helped you be successful?

As a woman in the baby industry, I've found distinct advantages. It's a space where few men venture, resulting in less competition. By surrounding myself with amazing people who are genuinely smarter than I am, has helped grow the business tenfold. With a positive mindset, dedication, and a clear vision, you can truly achieve your goals.

  • Because we have to, give us your top sleep tips.

For babies, natural, breathable fibers are essential. While there's no magic formula for perfect sleep, we can create the best possible environment for them to rest comfortably and safely. Every baby's sleep patterns are unique and can change with various milestones - sometimes it's simply a matter of luck and temperament.

  • Finally, Hopes for the next 15 years.

The team and I have some ambitious goals for the future as we expand our reach across the globe. I want to remain the TRUSTED brand in the market for many years and babies to come.
